The Off Switch

January 30th, 2009 - 3 Comments

Awkward TurtleHave you ever had a night where your brain was absolutely functional, but your personality was on vacation?  Where your brain was still happy to spit out things for your mouth to work on saying, but that side of you that connects with people and makes conversation enjoyable is busy in the back of your brain looking through cupboards for its misplaced left shoe?

I think we all have those moments from time to time, and tonight was one of those nights.  I don’t have any profound thoughts on the situation, just wanted to point out how ridiculously annoying it is when those nights roll around.  It’s not a problem when you’re around good friends–they know you’ve got a quiet side.  But when your personality’s off switch gets switched off at a party and ten people’s first impression of you is that your only friends are duck tape and well-organized sock drawers, it can be a nuisance.

Get Your Own Website

January 25th, 2009 - 2 Comments

If you’ve ever wanted your own website, read this blog. If not, wait until tomorrow and I’ll try to put up a real post!

picture-1Really quick, just thought I’d let everyone know.  If you’ve ever wanted to have a website, you can get one for a year for ten bucks.  Unlimited storage, unlimited visitors and bandwidth… a real website.  Like www.imthecoolespersonever.com.  Very much the best deal ever.

Before I tell you how, remember that they don’t make the site for you.  You’ll have to throw it together. If you’re just planning on putting up a blog at your site it’s actually really easy–like 5 minutes easy. You can email me and I’ll walk you through it after you get the site. If you want to do a real big HTML style site, though, you have to upload all the files and stuff so make sure you know how to do it.

Anywho, if you want to give it a try (if you’re even slightly nerdy, I’d spend the ten bucks just for the heck of it), here’s how to do it:

1) Click here to go to Lunarpages’ signup page.  They have a special going on right now that you can register a website for $60 for a year.  Make sure you use this link, because I’ll like you more (they give you commission if a friend signs up, so if you click that link to signup and then do it, you can make me take you out to dinner).

2) Click here to go to a form for a $50 rebate on your signup.  They’ll send it to you in about a month, they say. I just started a few days ago so I don’t actually know how long it takes.

That’s it!  You just got a website for $10.  Anyway, if you do it seriously let me know. I’ll help you get started. It’s fun.

Alright. Real blog coming up soon.

Recording…ness

January 21st, 2009 - 2 Comments

album-homeschoolAll of the songs I have previously uploaded to the blog have been remixed a bit to be made into their final versions.  No drastic changes, but if you want the final version, feel free to download them again.  Here is a list of all the songs our band has recorded so far, including our newest release (and second original song… and first song written entirely by a drummer named Chad Waite), Facebook Girl.

The Accidental Goodbye – Facebook Girl
The Accidental Goodbye – Mind
The Accidental Goodbye – Demons (cover)
The Accidental Goodbye – Wagon Wheel (cover)
The Accidental Goodbye – Existentialism on Prom Night (cover)

album-curious-georgeThere they are.  Existentialism didn’t change much… I said I’d upload a totally redone version and definitely haven’t.  Sorry about that.  Some day in the future we’ll redo the whole song.  In other news, I’m going to stop making every single post be a recording announcement.  In the next day or two I’ll add a page at brittonkowalk.com that will have all of our band’s information and recordings, since we’re planning on recording a lot more songs just for fun.  There will be a post on here when it happens to let you all know.  Then my blog will actually be a blog again.

Thanks for listening!

New Site!

Well, I bought a website.  Thought it’d be fun to try.  More to come soon!

Recording Happiness

January 15th, 2009 - 3 Comments

If days were Tupperware containers that you filled with fun, yesterday was one of those big pink ones that holds twelve gallons of leftover soup.

Yesterday was our band’s first experience with actually having some recording equipment of our own. Granted, it was a low end USB microphone, but I was really impressed with how clear it turned out! We’re not the Beatles, but we’re pretty proud of our two little songs that we put together in the front room of a squeaky apartment!

Anywho, without further ado, if you want to hear our band’s first two recorded songs, download below (click to listen or right click to save to your computer).
